Higher Education Course Design & Development – Canvas LMS

This project involved the full design and development of a three-module online course for aspiring teachers and paraprofessionals in higher education. Working from a detailed blueprint provided by the subject matter expert (SME), I transformed static course outlines into fully interactive, accessible, and visually branded learning experiences in Canvas LMS.

The modules incorporated Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, institutional branding, and accessibility standards to ensure every learner could engage meaningfully with the content.

Responsibilities and Process

Blueprint Implementation

Translated detailed course blueprints into structured, engaging online modules.
Collaborated with subject matter experts to maintain accuracy and alignment with learning objectives.

Canvas Development

Built each page manually using HTML within Canvas to achieve precise layout control.
Created custom tables, headings, and content boxes that adhered to institutional style and branding guidelines.

Visual & Media Design

Designed custom headers, icons, and banners in Canva to bring a cohesive visual identity to each module.
Produced short intro videos introducing learners to each section for a more human, welcoming tone.

Interactive Learning Elements

Used Articulate Storyline 360 to create interactive learning components for complex or dense material.
Packaged Storyline modules as SCORM objects for smooth integration within Canvas.

Accessibility & Quality Assurance

Applied WCAG 2.1 and UDL guidelines to ensure accessibility for all learners.
Tested all content for readability, consistency, and functionality within the Canvas environment.

Intro to World Religions Video

Created an engaging introductory video for the course using Vyond.
The incorporation of an AI avatar and AI-generated audio provides more humanistic way of delivering content.
